In these smaller diameters the advantages of spiral bits are even more evident than with larger bits. The bits maintain contact throughout their rotation, minimizing chatter and delivering the smooth, clean cuts required for intricate detail work. These bits are available in both Up-Cut and Down-Cut versions. Down-Cut ensures a crisp top surface. They're the best choice for shallow grooves and open-sided cuts, particularly in plywood and composite materials like MDF. Up-Cut bits evacuate the shavings better on deeper grooves, dadoes and straight bores.
