These cards were created by a Reading Specialist to help right-brained children with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD who struggled with memorization. Sight words cannot be sounded out, they must be memorized. These picture cues give the children something tangible to hold on to when trying to recall a word, or its spelling. Children are using their right brain strength to recall just a picture, rather than the left-brain to recall a letter. These cards are also great for emerging readers (non-dyslexic) from ages 3-4 on, since they are younger and are more drawn to pictures than just plain text.
The pictures tie into the meaning of the word and thus help the child read the word faster. In addition, there is a sentence at the back of each picture card that helps the child understand the word in context, thus helping comprehension. And the picture cue is linked to the shape of the letter, that helps spelling. Thus the child masters reads, spells and understands sight words faster by using these cards.
